The Nepalese security forces have confiscated a large cache of explosives from different parts of Kathmandu, preventing probable bomb attacks by the anti-government guerrillas, The Rising Nepal newspaper reported Saturday.
The seized explosives include 92 socket bombs, five timer bombs, five pager bombs, 27 detonators, 150 meters of fuse wire and other explosive materials.
"With the seizure of these highly destructive materials, the intention of the terrorists to cause big damage to life and property has been foiled," the state-run English daily quoted an officer of the Royal Nepal Army as saying.
The explosives were confiscated based on information provided by some prudent local people, the officer said on condition of anonymity.
The guerrillas stored a large amount of explosive at three different parts of the capital and had plans to pack the explosives on motorcycles and ram them into some public places in a bid to create chaos, he added.
Nearly 10,000 Nepalese people have lost their lives since the anti-government insurgency broke out in the Himalayan kingdom in early 1996.
