Mainland Sees Increasing Investment from Taiwanese Firms
Taiwan's investments in the Chinese mainland during the first nine months of this year rose by almost 19 percent compared to the same period last year, while local investments in the United States decreased for six straight months.

Investments in the Chinese mainland during the period from January to September stood at US$2.12 billion, an increase of 18.95 percent, compared to the same period last year, Taiwan's local media quoted the latest official statistics on Wednesday.

Meanwhile, Taiwan's investments in the United States slid for a six consecutive month as the terrorist attacks in New York and Washington heightened uncertainty about the global economy and further derailed the anticipated economic recovery.

Electronics, basic metal and chemical products are the top three categories of investment in the mainland by Taiwanese firms.

Local businessmen focus mainly on Jiangsu Province, which accommodates about 52 percent of the total value of investments in the mainland from Taiwan. Guangdong and Zhejiang provinces are favorite choices with 28.51 percent and 8.69 percent investments respectively, the statistics showed.
