Swedish vendor Ericsson said on February 28 that it has won a contract from China's Guangxi Mobile Communications Company to provide an IP backbone network covering eight cities in the Guangxi Province.
Financial details were not disclosed.
Ericsson will supply its Packet Backbone Network, part of its ENGINE Multi-Service Backbone solution. The vendor said it will implement its high-end AXI 580 and AXI 520 IP backbone routers under the contract.
The deployment of the routers will enable the Chinese operator to provide high-speed data services and advanced Internet applications on its IP network.
Ericsson added that it will provide further services such as installation, systems support and hardware replacement. Installation is expected to start at the end of April.
Guangxi Mobile, part of the China Mobile Group, has 2.15 million subscribers and has been providing GSM service since 1996. The company provides mobile voice, as well as data, IP telephony and multimedia.
Ericsson's Packet Backbone Network (PBN) is a carrier-class data backbone that is designed to enable operators to offer new or expanded services over an IP infrastructure.
