More than 800 international businesses participated in the ongoing Seventh International Construction, Building Materials & Urban Services Exhibition, which opened in Beijing on March 20, as part of their efforts to tap the Olympic-related construction projects.
Total investment in Beijing's urban construction over the next five years will top 180 billion yuan (US$21.75 billion), 17 billion yuan (US$2.05 billion) of which going for gymnasium construction and 71.3 billion yuan (US$8.61 billion) for environment protection. About 142 projects will be built over that period.
Khan Yong, Marketing Director of Marbon Industries Sdn Bhd of Malaysia said it was the first time for his company to attend China's exhibition. He noted that China has become the biggest market for his company, hoping to seek business opportunities in Beijing.
Steel structures dominate the exhibition. In addition to China's well-known steel groups, including the Capital Iron and Steel Group and the Shanghai Baosteel Group, many overseas companies show great interests in construction of gymnasiums in Beijing.
