A man who killed 12 people and injured five others was sentenced to death on Saturday by a county court in northeast China's Jilin Province.
Shi Yuejun, 37, was convicted of intentional homicide by Liuhe County People's Court.
Shi, a butcher, anxious to get revenge for slights he had suffered in the past, killed seven people and injured four others in Liuhe and nearby Tonghua County on Sept. 24 this year.
While attempting to evade capture in Liuhe over the next five days, he killed five more people and injured another.
More than 12,000 people, including militia, armed soldiers, local residents and 2,000 police officers, joined the manhunt.
The murderer was captured on Sept. 29, in a corn field in Liunan Township of Liuhe.
It is not known whether Shi will appeal.
