Beijing, the host city of the 2008 Olympic Games, launched a campaign on December 17 to promote its "Green Olympics" concept by setting up an environmental protection promotion team.
The team, composed of 28 experts and scholars on environmental protection, will give lectures periodically to the citizens in the Chinese capital, said organizers.
He Zhenliang, a member of the International Olympic Committee (IOC), and Deng Yaping, a member of the IOC's Sport and Environment Commission, serve as consultants to the team.
"I hope the campaign will arouse the awareness of environmental protection among more and more people and contribute to a 'Green Olympics' in 2008," said Deng, former table tennis world and Olympic champion.
"Green Olympics", "Hi-tech Olympics" and "People's Olympics" are the three themes of the 2008 Olympics.
