Adjust font size:

China will introduce advanced weapons, technology and equipment for police to ensure the security during the 2008 Beijing Olympic Games, said an official of the Ministry of Public Security in Beijing on Monday.

Wu Heping, spokesman of the ministry, said at a press conference that China will increase investment in police equipment, which will help improve security service during the Games.

He said about 30 police helicopters will be in service by the end of 2007.

The ministry will hold the fourth China International Exhibition on Police Equipment in April 2008 to introduce advanced tools and equipment such as police vehicles, weapons, counter-narcotics equipment, anti-terrorism, anti-riot and anti-explosive disposal equipment, criminal surveillance equipment and communication equipment.

According to the ministry, police helicopter fleets, responsible for air patrolling, transporting, fighting terrorism, and directing the flow of traffic, have been set up or being organized in large cities including Beijing, Shanghai, Chongqing, Zhengzhou, Shenzhen and Nanjing.
