Typhoon Krosa nears, 1 million evacuated
Adjust font size:

Southeast China are bracing for strong typhoon "Krosa", the 16th this year, which is predicted to make landfall on the Chinese mainland on Sunday afternoon.

More than one million people in the region have been evacuated.

Fujian, drenched by heavy downpours, has issued warning of possible mud-rock flow and slides.

Wenzhou city of Zhejiang Province has issued a red warning signal and ordered ferries, sightseeing boats and fishing vessels to head for safe harbors.

The typhoon has also prompted school closure and flight cancellations in Wenzhou.

As of 7:00 AM on Sunday, Krosa was whirling at sea about 270 km off Wenling in southern Zhejiang with sustained winds of 126 kph, the Wenzhou meteorological observatory said.

The typhoon has lashed Taiwan, cutting off power supplies and halting highway and air traffic. Taiwan media reports show several people injured by tiles, damaged billboard and in a bus accident.

Krosa is expected to make a landfall between Wenling of Zhejiang and Ningde of Fujian on Sunday before heading north, the Zhejiang observatory said.
