The 10th Plenary Session of the International Association of Economic and Social Councils and Similar Institutions (IAESCSI) came to a close in Beijing on June 21, 2007, after successfully completing all the items on its agenda. Wang Zhongyu, Vice Chairman of the National Committee of the Chinese People's Political Consultative Conference and Chairman of the China Economic and Social Council, presided over the meeting and gave a keynote speech.

The meeting passed a work report and a financial report made by the secretariat of the IAESCSI. Wang Zhongyu was elected the Honorary Chairman of the Association,and Gia, Chairman of the Brazil Economic and Social Development Council, was elected the 5th Chairman of the Association. The meeting has produced a new management committee for the association, and it has been decided that Brazil will be the host country of the 11th Session of the association in 2009. The Italy Economic and Social Council will organize the 2008 annual meeting of the IAESCSI. It was decided at the meeting that the Lao Front for National Construction would be accepted as a new member of the IAESCSI.

Gia, new Chairman of the IAESCSI and the Brazil Economic and Social Development Council, Jacques Dermagne, the current Honorary Chairman of the IAESCSI and also Chairman of French Economic and Social Council, and Bertrand Duruflé, Secretary-General of IAESCSI, all addressed the meeting.

In his closing speech, Wang Zhongyu said that, during the meeting, representatives from all countries exchanged experiences and held in-depth discussions by focusing on the theme of the meeting and much had been achieved. First, the Beijing Declaration, which gained consensus at the meeting, was passed. This document proclaims to the whole world the clear objectives and position of the IAESCSI: To strengthen international cooperation, promote common development and build up a harmonious world. It reflects the world people's common aspiration for peace, development and prosperity. Second, the meeting provided an opportunity for representatives to conduct communication and dialogues on various issues. All the member organizations made in-depth discussion on issues of common concern to the international community on the basis of mutual respect and equal consultation. This has greatly promoted mutual understanding as well as North-South dialogue and South-South cooperation, contributing to the development of all countries and regions and also the world people's well being. Third, this meeting has made a good preparation for the IAESCSI's future work. Fourth, the meeting strengthens the connection between the IAESCSI  and such international organizations as the United Nations, which have provided favorable conditions for the IAESCSI's development. All these achievements prove that this meeting reached its goal of equal consultation and promoting understanding, friendship and cooperation.
