Li Peng, chairman of the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC), sent a congratulatory message Sunday to China University of Geosciences on the 50th anniversary of its founding.
The university was founded in 1952, incorporating the geological departments of four universities. It is one of the key universities directly under the Ministry of Education.
The university encompasses geology, land resources, environment science and geological engineering and technologies.
Some 70,000 students have graduated from the university in the past half-century and 21 have been honored as members of the Chinese Academy of Sciences or the Chinese Academy of Engineering, the top scientific research bodies in China.
