The Chinese government is formulating a middle and long-term national science and technology development program to improve national competitiveness, according to the Ministry of Science and Technology.
Deng Nan, vice-minister of Science and Technology, said at a national sci-tech conference Tuesday that the principles guiding the program were leadership, strategies, prioritization, and building on achievements.
The program would be completed this year, officials with the ministry said.
Participants from the Ministry of Education, the Commission of Science, Technology and Industry for National Defense, the Chinese Academy of Sciences, the Chinese Academy of Engineering, and the Chinese Scientific Association discussed on contents of the program at the meeting, making a number of suggestions for the nation's future sci-tech development.
