China's first center for the transplant of fine-breed goat embryos has been established in Linxi County in north China's Hebei Province, Guangming Daily reported Tuesday.
Since 1999, Sang Runzi, a professor of embryology with Hebei Agricultural University, has been researching the upgrading of goat reproduction by means of biological technology.
Sang's research has transformed the raising of Boer goats, a fine-breed animal, into a backbone economic sector in Linxi. In 2002, goat raising contributed 42 million yuan (US$5 million) to the county's total revenue.
Li Xiumei, who is engaged in large-scale sheep raising, is expected to see an income increase of over 300,000 yuan (US$36,300) this year.
