Imperial Dragon Drum of Qing Dynasty Unveiled in Beijing Suburb

An imperial drum granted by Emperor Qianlong of the  Qing Dynasty (1644-1911) is on display in Changping District in the suburbs of Beijing, crienglish.com reported Thursday.

Despite its long history and mottled surface, a pattern of two golden dragons playing with a pearl can be seen on the drum, which is 80-centimeters in diameter.

The local historical record said the area around Beijng was in drought during the reign of Emperor Qianlong.

One village in Changping prayed for rain and after the prayers were answered the emperor bestowed a set of eight drums on the village. Only one drum survived.
