India Sees Increasing Number of Foreign Tourists

India received 4.43 million foreign tourists last year, up 14.2 percent from the year of 2005 which saw 3.92 million visitors' arrival, according to press release of the Tourism Ministry of India Wednesday.

 

Meanwhile, foreign exchange earnings from tourism reached US$6.569 billion last year, up from US$5.73 billion in 2005.

 

The ministry attributed the increase of tourists to the Incredible India campaign to attract more foreign tourists.

 

The country has been awarded as Asia's leading destination by the World Travel Awards.
