Indonesia Needs Help to Lift Crashed Plane Black Boxes
Adjust font size:

Indonesia will ask technological support from Japan, the United States and France to lift black boxes of the missing Adam Air plane from the sea floor in Majene water, Sulawesi, local press said Monday.

Local authorities said the government had no equipment to pick up the cabin voice recorders from the sea bed at a depth of 1,700 meters, reported major national newspaper The Jakarta Post's website.

US navy ship USNS Mary Sears, which helped the Indonesian search team, detected last week a signal of the black box from the Boeing 737-400, which went missing on Jan. 1 with 102 people onboard.

The U.S. oceanographic survey ship has detected pingers on the same frequency of the black boxes associated with the missing airplane using a Towed Pinger Locator.
