The 4th Chinese Drama Festival was unveiled in Macau Saturday as a gala to slake the thirst of local residents for excellent Chinese drama and promote arts exchanges.
Troupes from Beijing, Hong Kong, Macau and Taiwan plan to present a total of eight drama programs in Chinese in the Macau Special Administrative Region (SAR) in the coming week.
All the programs are of high standard and some are classic, an official with the Cultural Institute told Xinhua, adding that Macau can upgrade its image as a cultural and tourism city by holding such an event.
A five-day symposium on Chinese drama development is also scheduled for the festival to attract more than 40 drama experts getting together to discuss the trend of Chinese drama.
The biennial event was first launched in Beijing in 1996 and later held in Hong Kong and Taiwan.
