As part of the government-guided aviation industry restructuring, the three major domestic airline groups will be taking steps next year to unify their operations and marketing business to enhance their efficiency and cut costs.
Ye Yigan, president of China Eastern Airlines Group, said that route and flight arrangements, aircraft purchase, marketing and sales and plane maintenance activities will also be unified in the coming year.
"Actually, arrangement of aircraft has already helped us cut cost and enhance plane utility. Planes of China Northwest which are at rest in winter were moved to eastern China to meet demand on prime routes," said Sun Guoping, a spokes-man for China Eastern.
Shanghai-based China Eastern Airlines Group said its airline code MU will replace the WH currently adopted by China Northwest Airlines and the 3Q for China Yunnan Airlines in the merged group.
"The unification of codes will be carried out in about a month," Sun said.
China National Aviation Holdings Co. and China Southern Airlines Group, the other two conglomerates under the industry restruc-turing, will use CA and CZ respectively from January 1.
