Shanghai Marine Rescue Center has successfully carried out its first helicopter rescue at sea, saving three fishermen near Chongming Tuanjiesha earlier this week.
At 12:30 pm on March 3, Shanghai Marine Rescue Center received an emergency call, saying that three fishermen were caught in a storm while eel fishing and their boat had lost power.
The center sent a rescue boat to the scene immediately, but strong gales forced the small boat back and the waters were too shallow for bigger vessels. The center decided to launch an air rescue and asked the Shanghai branch of Zhongxin Marine Helicopter Co. Ltd to help.
At 3:35 p.m., an A-109E helicopter flew to the scene. At 4:01 p.m., the helicopter found the fishing boat in the force nine gale and the three fishermen were plucked from the vessel by a lifeguard on a cable.
The fishermen were all from Xiangshui county in east China's Jiangsu Province.
