STA Travel, the world's largest travel agency for students and young people, has granted the Shanghai China Youth Travel Service Co, Ltd (SCYTS) a franchise for the market in eastern China.
Dick Potter, chief executive officer of STA Travel, said that Shanghai was an important city in China and also a market of great promise.
Potter said the SCYTS would be their sole agent in eastern China, responsible for the promotion of their flagship products which are summer and winter camps in foreign countries like Canada, Britain, New Zealand, Australia, Japan and Singapore.
The company has established cooperation with 75 international airlines and over 500 institutions of higher learning across the world.
Students from those institutions can purchase preferential air tickets jointly issued by the 75 airlines so long as they produce valid certificates.
Based in London, STA Travel was established in 1969 and has 450 branches in 75 countries. With more than four million customers every year, the company's annual trade volume has topped US$1.2 billion.
