Two youth hostels on the Coloane Island of Macao, which had been arranged into isolation camps to admit suspected severe acute respiratory syndrome (SARS) patients, have been quarantined and ready to be reopened to tourists this month, the Macao Education and Youth Affairs Bureau announced Friday.
The bureau said that the hostels that have been thoroughly disinfected will keep the facilities, which were installed during the prevention of SARS infection, including an enclosure, a new set of aerators and disinfection rooms.
Macao is expecting a revival of tourism in the summer time. The youth hostels located on the island resort have been young fun-seekers' preferred vacation camps, which are capable of accommodating 400 people.
The hostels exploited in April have only housed one SARS patient for his rehabilitation treatment, and eight health care workers taking quarantine. The condition in the youth hostels have been well affirmed by experts from the World Health Organization during their visit to inspect Macao's SARS prevention and control work.
