The litchi festival in Nanshan District, Shekou, will feature a series of activities during the week to boost the tourism industry.
The festival is being held from June 19 through 26.
A grand gala party was held at the Sea World plaza in Shekou on Saturday evening, marking the official opening of festivities. More than 1,000 people took part in the gala.
During the week, there will be a series of activities in scenic spots, residential communities and supermarkets in the district to generate a festive atmosphere.
Activities include rock'n'roll concerts, parties, promotions in supermarkets and tours to historic sites.
Litchi produced in Nanshan District has a good reputation with people from Guangdong, Hong Kong, Macao and Taiwan. In recent years, the fruit has been exported to the United States, Japan and Europe.
Since 1999, the litchi festival has been held each year in June.
