Beijing's daily recycle capacity of household waste will reach 30,000 tons by the end of 2020, which would eliminate the need for disposing waste by landfill, according to the Beijing Municipal Commission of City Management.
The Nangong Waste Incineration Power Plant, located in the Nandahongmen Village in Daxing District, is the first household waste incineration plant in southern Beijing. The plant has been in stable operation for four months.
Ding Guangxing, the general engineer of the Beijing Nangong Bio Energy Co.Ltd., said that the plant has been in continuous operation for 3,000 hours, and it has handled 180,000 tons of waste and generated 44 million kwh electricity.
According to Ding, the plant can handle 1,000 tons of household waste daily, and the remains after incineration will be recycled as road paving material.
Zhang Yuesheng, deputy director of the Division for Facilities at the Beijing Municipal Commission of City Management, said the plant is open to the public, and citizens can visit the facilities by appointment.
According to Zhang, the daily capacity of waste treatment is 23,800 tons in Beijing, which is still insufficient. Therefore, the second phase of Lujiashan Waste Incineration Power Plant and Anding Waste Incineration Power Plant for the new airport will be launched in the future with consideration to population distribution, environmental improvement and treatment of existing waste.
Currently, the treatment of household waste in Beijing has changed from disposal by landfill to incineration and bio-disposal. Different types of waste are now gathered and disposed in a recycle industrial park, and four such industrial parks are established: the Gaoantun, Lujiashan, Nangong and Asuwei industrial parks.
