Typhoon Nakri is moving from waters southwest of Taiwan Island into the East China Sea at a speed of 20 to 25 kilometers per hour (kph), said China's National Marine Environmental Forecasting Center on Thursday.

The storm is packing winds at speeds of up to 64.8 kph and is expected to get stronger. It will cause gusts and waves as high as six meters off China's southeast coastal areas.

The center has issued an alert to vessels near Taiwan, Shanghai and Zhejiang.
