Editor's note: The United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) identifies developed countries as the largest current source of global greenhouse gas emissions, while per capita emissions from developing countries are still relatively low. However, the share of global emissions contributed by developing countries will certainly increase as they strive to meet their economic and social development needs.
Therefore, all parties to the UNFCCC, must take equal part in protecting the global climate system for the sake of future generations according to their common but differentiated responsibilities and respective capabilities. However, developed countries need to take the lead in any actions to be undertaken to combat climate change.
As a responsible developing country, China attaches great importance to the issue of climate change and has already established a "national climate change coordination mechanism" in response. Based on the requirements of the national sustainable development strategy, the country has adopted a series of related policies and measures to make a positive contribution to the mitigation of and adaptation to climate change.
The following data graphics truly reflect China's adherence to the principle of "common but differentiated responsibilities" and China's fulfillment of its promises by combining its own development level.
