Severe smog engulfs NE China

Severe smog shrouded Harbin, capital city of northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, on Oct. 30. The air quality index (AQI) in many parts of the city soared to the maximum of 500 yesterday, Xinhua News Agency reported. According to the Ministry of Environmental Protection, air pollution is "serious" when AQI is between 301 and 500. [Photo/Xinhua]
