Tanzania's Great Elephant Census in June 2015 revealed staggering numbers on elephant populations in the country. The countrywide census revealed an estimate of 43,330 elephants, compared to the 2009 level of 109,051. This represents a loss of 65,721 elephants in 5 years, or a 60 percent decline nationally.
