At least 45 whales have died after stranding themselves on the shore at Tuticorin in the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu, BBC reported yesterday. Local officials said about 50 short-nosed pilot whales were stranded on the beach, while some local media put the number at more than 100, according to AFP reports. The last time whales washed up on the beaches of Tuticorin was in 1973 when 147 whales died. [Photo/Xinhua]
