Floods, landslides and river overflows caused by heavy rainfalls from last weekend in Guatemala have killed 26 people and injured dozens of others, official sources from Guatemala said Monday.
Francisco Salguero, mayor of La Union in Zacapa province in eastern Guatemala, confirmed that 21 people were buried in two landslides that fell over their homes.
Another four people died of the same tragedy in the town of Najap, in the northwest province of Huehuetenango.
In Alta Verapaz province, a farmer was drowned after being washed away by river flow.
So far this year, disasters caused by heavy rainfalls have claimed 62 lives in the Central American country.
