The upcoming First Session of the 10th National People's Congress
(NPC) will bring in China's new generation of state and government
leaders, thus the agenda of the session adopted at Tuesday's
preparatory meeting has drawn wide attention.
The session, due to open on Wednesday, will elect new NPC Standing
Committee chairman, state president and chairman of the Central
Military Commission of the People's Republic of China (PRC), and
decide on the candidate for the premiership of the State
Council.
Institutional restructuring of the State Council, China's cabinet,
is also on the agenda.
Also to be elected at the session are vice-chairmen,
secretary-general and members of the 10th NPC Standing Committee,
and vice-president of the PRC.
Deputies to the 10th NPC will decide on candidates for
vice-premiers, state councilors, heads of all ministries and
commissions, governor of the People's Bank of China,
auditor-general of the Auditing Administration, secretary-general
of the State Council, vice-chairmen and members of the Central
Military Commission of the PRC, and members of various special
committees of the 10th NPC.
They will also elect president of the Supreme People's Court and
procurator-general of the Supreme People's Procuratorate.
According to the agenda, the deputies will hear and deliberate a
series of reports, including the report of government work to be
delivered by the premier, and reports on national economic and
social development plan, and on central and local budgets.
