Wang Yifu notched a second Olympic gold for China when he edged out
Russian Mikhail Nestruev to win the men's 10m air pistol final on
Saturday.
Du Li of China snatched the first gold medal at the Athens
Olympics after she pipped Russian Lioubov Galkina in the women's
10m air rifle event.
Four hours after Du's triumph, Wang scored 100 points in a
dramatic final to finish with a total of 690 points, a new Olympic
record.
World number one Nestruev, who topped the qualification round
with the best score of 591 points, blew a 0.8-point lead in the
last shot, having to settle for the silver on 689.8 points.
Nestruev's compatriot Vladimir Isakov grabbed the bronze medal
with 684.3 points.
Tan Zongliang, China's another shooter in this event, and
defending champion Franck Dumoulin of France failed to reach the
eight-man final.
