Ethnic Han, born in July 1941, native of Fengrun, Hebei Province

Joined the Communist Party of China (CPC) in December 1965, began working in September 1966, graduated from the Department of Power Generating Machine majoring in turbomachine at Harbin Institute of Technology, with a university education, engineer.

Member of Political Bureau of CPC Central Committee, vice- chairman of the Standing Committee of the 11th National People's Congress (NPC) and deputy secretary of its Leading Party Members' Group, chairman of All-China Federation of Trade Unions

1961-1966: Student majoring in turbomachine in the Department of Power Generating Machine at Harbin Institute of Technology

1966-1968: Stayed at the institute and waited for job assignments

1968-1971: Technician of the Chassis Plant of the First Automotive Works

1971-1974: Technician of the Axle Plant of the Second Automotive Works and deputy secretary of the Communist Youth League of China (CYLC) committee of the Axle Plant and secretary of CYLC committee of the Second Automotive Works
