Eight people were confirmed dead and another missing in floods
that pelted Huludao City of northeast China's Liaoning Province last week, according to the
provincial headquarters for flood control and drought relief on
Monday.
Search for the missing person is continuing and local people
have begun rebuilding their homes, according to the
headquarters.
Economic losses caused by the floods are being calculated.
Flash downpours hit Huludao from zero hour of June 29 to 8:00
a.m. of June 30, causing flooding in the Wuli and Lianshan rivers
that run through the city and bursts of dams of the rivers.
The highest rainfall was reported at 243 mm in Huludao, a record
since 1991.
