Since China and Botswana established diplomatic relations on
Jan. 6, 1975, bilateral relations have been developing in a smooth
and sound manner. The two countries have signed agreements on
cooperation in trade and investment protection, education and
culture.
Botswana's President Mogae visited China in 2000. Wei Jianxing,
then a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of
the CPC Central Committee, visited Botswana in 2002. Wu Guanzheng,
a member of the Standing Committee of the Political Bureau of the
CPC Central Committee, visited Botswana in 2006.
Botswana is now a destination country for Chinese citizens and
tourist groups. Bilateral trade reached US$62.52 million in
2005.
