Adjust font size:

About 200 orphans and students of poverty-stricken families obtained financial help in Guangzhou Sunday.

The students from 14 cities and 50 counties in the province drew compassion from all over the province including Shenzhen, Shantou, Dongguan and Zhongshan.

Mr. Zhou, a Taiwan businessman from Foshan City, donated money for 20 children.

Wu Wei, a senior high school student in Guangzhou, donated 1,000 yuan he had saved to sponsor a primary school student in Huazhou, who lost both parents.

The activity was launched in 1994 and has been part of the province's Project Hope.

By the end of last year, Project Hope has helped more than 110,000 financially strapped children in Guangdong in 13 years with a total donation of 280 million yuan (US$33.6 million). A total of 465 Hope schools were set up in poverty-stricken areas.
