Hong Kong, April 23 (Xinhuanet) -- Companies of Canon in Hong Kong jointly donated 1 million Hong Kong dollars (128,000 US dollars) Wednesday to local hospital authority to support the war against Severe Acute Respiratory Syndrome (SARS).
"We are aware that although SARS has become a major incident ofthe Hong Kong society, the medical workers have, at the same time,demonstrated their excellent professionalism and commitment to thepeople here," CEO and President of a Canon company Hideki Ozawa said.
The money donated by Canon will be used mainly in purchasing medical supplies needed for the treatment and prevention of SARS.
Canon Hong Kong said another caring initiative, under the "Caring For You First" campaign, will donate 20 Hong Kong dollars for every unit of Canon products sold from now till end of May, bywhich to raise donation of an additional amount of 500,000 Hong Kong dollars.
"We appreciate the hard work done by the medical staff in fighting against SARS, and we believe that victory over SARS is just round the corner," said Ozawa.
