Top legislator Wu
Bangguo on Sunday called for implementation of the new
five-year development guidelines under the guidance of scientific
development concept endorsed by the Chinese leadership.
"The concept has been thoroughly adopted by draft outlines of
the
11th Five-Year Guidelines, which clearly sets forth the goals
and major tasks for the upcoming five years," said Wu, chairman of
the Standing Committee of the National People's Congress (NPC),
during a panel discussion at an annual session of the top
legislature.
The blueprint will serve as the guideline for Chinese people of
all ethnic groups in the drive of building a socialist harmonious
society if it is approved by lawmakers at the session, Wu addressed
NPC deputies from Anhui Province while they were reviewing the
government work report by Premier Wen
Jiabao.
While affirming achievements China has made over the past five
years after successfully handling international and domestic
challenges, Wu, also a member of the Standing Committee of the
Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee, called for more
substantial efforts in economic restructuring and upgrading the
pattern of economic growth.
Vice-President Zeng
Qinghong also underscored the significance of the scientific
outlook on development in carrying out the new
five-year guidelines while joining NPC deputies from Jiangxi
Province in examination of premier's report.
The five-year guidelines is a start for building a
socialist harmonious society, an innovative country and a new
socialist countryside, said Zeng, also a member of the Standing
Committee of the Political Bureau of the CPC Central Committee.
He noted that the bold drive is to be promoted under the
guidance of the concept of scientific development so as to achieve
