The floating organisms at a water supply source in Mudanjiang
City of northeast China's
Heilongjiang Province remain unidentified even after analysis
by scientists.
The Mudanjiang Bureau of Environmental Protection sent
micrographs of the organisms to the provincial environmental
protection department for identification on Wednesday, said the
bureau's head Wang Qingbai.
The water supply in Mudanjiang has not been cut off after the
organisms were detected at 2:00 PM on February 19.
A distillery in the neighboring city of Hailin, which emitted a
great deal of distillers' grains into Hailang River, is to blame
for the accident, according to Mudanjiang city government spokesman
Wang Shuyin.
The distillers' grain fermented and accelerated reproduction of
the aquatic organisms as the weather is getting warmer.
The water supply source of Mudanjiang is located at the lower
reaches of the Hailang River, a tributary of the Mudanjiang
River.
Local people have built three nets in Hailang River to block the
aquatic organism.
