The Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone recently held a naming ceremony for Wantou-1 Satellite and planned to send it into orbit in mid or late May.
Wantou-1 belongs to the Tianqi constellation, the first low-orbit Internet of Things (IoT) satellite constellation in China. The satellite is slated for launch by Galactic Energy's rocket in Rizhao city, eastern China's Shandong province.
The Tianqi constellation consists of 38 satellites, with 21 of them in operation currently. Focusing on IoT data communication services on a global scale, the constellation is expected to enhance the country's competitiveness and influence in the global IoT field.
The launch of Wantou-1 satellite will improve the constellation's efficiency and capacity, accelerate the country's efforts on building low-orbit satellite constellation, and boost the development in relevant industries, marking another important milestone of the Tianqi constellation.
