On both sides of Yunfei Road in the Hefei National High-tech Industry Development Zone, there are more than 30 quantum technology companies that have achieved various cutting-edge sci-tech advancements.
The road has become more commonly known as the "Quantum Avenue" to many locals, and QuantumCTek, Origin Quantum, and ChinaProsp Quantum are the big names that have made the road their home.
In 2009, QuantumCTek was established on Yunfei Road to help the University of Science and Technology of China (USTC) to commercialize its technology in economic and industrial applications.
While striving to promote innovation, the enterprise has been working to foster industry supply chains, ranging from optics, electronics chips manufacturing to product development, and then to the application of quantum technology in various advanced commercial scenarios.
Having turned into a Chinese pioneer and leader in commercialized quantum information technology, the company went public in July 2020 on Shanghai's technology-focused STAR Market, becoming the first quantum information technology company in the country to list on the stock exchange.
Origin Quantum was founded in the Hefei high-tech zone in 2017, focusing on quantum computing.
In April 2024, the company launched China's independently developed third-generation superconducting quantum computer – Origin Wukong. As of this January, the computer had completed more than 320,000 quantum computing tasks for over 18 million users from 139 countries and regions worldwide.
Last August, Bengbu Medical University (BMU) in Anhui province signed an agreement with Origin Quantum to develop China's first quantum-computing-powered application for molecular docking. Relying on the third-generation superconducting quantum computer, the application is expected to accelerate the development of small molecule drugs and improve drug design efficiency, more effectively predicting the properties of drug molecules and their interactions with one another.
ChinaProsp Quantum, based in the zone's Grand Union of Innovation (GUi), was set up in 2019 and has emerged as a pioneer in quantum precision measurement.
With a development team hailing from the quantum information laboratory at the USTC, the company's products excel in accuracy, bandwidth, and dynamic range, outpacing global counterparts, unveiling groundbreaking advancements in new quality productive forces.
After 15 years, quantum technology enterprises on Quantum Avenue have preliminarily formed an industrial chain covering quantum communication, quantum measurement, quantum computing, and key quantum components.
At present, Hefei is home to more than 70 enterprises in the quantum industrial chain, ranking first in the country. The city is committed to creating China's first quantum industrial cluster and establishing itself as a world-renowned quantum technology center.
