On December 26th, Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway opened. It passes Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang with the length of 1,777 kilometers.
Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway starts from Lanzhou West Railway Station and ends in Urumqi South Railway Station via Zhangye, Jiuquan, Jiayuguan in Gansu and Hami, Turpan in Xinjiang Uygur Autonomous Region. Its construction standard is class I double-track electric railway while its maximum speed reaches 250 kilometers per hour.
Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway crosses the Yellow River, snow mountains and deserts. It has the longest mileage of one-time construction and crosses the highest land and the most scenic spots.
Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway is the major project of mid-term and long-term railway network plan and the strategy for the development of the western regions. It started construction in 2009 and opened the section from Hami to Urumqi in advance on November 16th, 2014.
The construction and operation of Lanzhou-Xinjiang high-speed railway will create a new high-speed railway with strong capability through Gansu, Qinghai and Xinjiang. It will improve the travel condition of northwest districts and optimize traffic and tourist environment, which means significantly to promoting economic and social development in northwest districts and construction of the new Silk Road economic belt.
