Nowadays walking in the streets of Lanzhou, you will come across many foreigners with different skin colors. According to statistics, now over one thousand expats reside in Lanzhou.

Stretched noodles lad

HinWong is a 26-year-old British young man whose father is a famous Chinese cuisine chef. He encountered a girl from Lanzhou, and married her in China earlier this year. The first time Hin went to a Lanzhou beef noodles restaurant with his wife, he was deeply impressed by the delicious noodles as well as the arts of making it. Now he attended a chef training school to learn how to make stretched noodles.

“In Britain, the noodles you can have are spaghetti and instant noodles. So I decide to open a Lanzhou beef stretched noodles after we get back to Britain. ” said he.

A taekwondo coach in Lanzhou

Jin Dongqin was the champion of South Korea's taekwondo competition. In 2005, she went to Lanzhou with her husband for business. In order to adapt to the local life, Jin worked as a taekwondo coach at a fitness club and learned Chinese with her new friends. She said: “I can make a lot of money with much less work to do than in Korea.” Now she has her own taekwondo hall and many friends in Lanzhou. Next year, her son will enter university, and she was inclined to let him choose a university in Lanzhou. She said: “He can study Chinese in China, and it is easier to find a job in the future.”

A foreign tour guide in Gansu

Daniel Boone comes from Canada, and has traveled over 10 countries. Now he settles down in Lanzhou. During his college time, he traveled in many places. Now 27-year-old Daniel works as a tour guide in Lanzhou.

He said: “Dunhuang impresses me deeply among all the cities in Gansu because I’m much into history, and Canada’s history can only date back to the age of my grandfather’s grandfather. But here the history spans over 8000 years.”

Now the Christmas holiday is approaching, and Daniel is going to receive tourist groups from America and Canada. Daniel told the reporter although he is usually too busy to eat and sleep, it is worthwhile when he saw the tourists learned much after his explanation.
