酒后驾驶（drunk driving）是行车大忌。然而，在今年夏天的世界杯期间，总是难免会有人在酒吧观球之后，仗着酒兴，驾车上路。面对这种情况，北京交管部门表示，世界杯期间，凡酒驾者，一律依法高限处罚。“高限处罚”意味着司机一旦醉酒驾车，就将被拘留15天，且暂扣驾驶证六个月，并处二千元罚款。请看中国网报道：

       The Beijing traffic administration announced June 10 that drunk drivers will get the law's most severe penalty during the World Cup in South Africa. Anyone operating a motor vehicle while drunk shall be detained 15 days, be fined 2,000 yuan (US$292) and receive a 6-month driver's license suspension.

       酒后驾车具有十分严重的社会危害性。据统计，2008年我国因交通事故导致73484人死亡。如果按照国际上的统计比例，即酒后驾驶机动车辆发生交通事故占总交通事故数量的25%计算，那么2008年我国因酒后驾驶机动车辆发生交通事故导致死亡人数已上万。

       2010年4月，公安部建议研究在刑法中增设“危险驾驶机动车罪”，以加大对醉驾、飙车等行为的打击力度。《中国日报》对此事进行了报道：
