| The United States marked the ninth anniversary of the September 11 attacks on Saturday with commemorative ceremonies, and although the pastor Terry Jones had canceled plans for a high-profile protest burning of the Koran, the Muslim holy book was abused in at least three separate incidents, Reuters reported. Hundreds of people in favor and against the building of an Islamic cultural center and mosque near the site of the toppled World Trade Center gathered in New York. The protests were peaceful. But there were at least two incidents of abuse of the Koran in Lower Manhattan. Separately, two evangelical preachers burned two copies of the Koran in Tennessee. Jones' Koran-burning plan had triggered outbreaks of violence in Afghanistan in which one protester was shot dead. Thousands of Afghans demonstrated in the northeast of the country for a second day on Saturday. |

In developed countries, high-rate estate taxes and the break up coalitions between politics and business are two ways to prevent heredity transfers and monopolies. | Three people set fire to themselves Friday morning in Yihuang County, Jiangxi Province, in a forced-relocation dispute, the Southern Metropolis Daily reported. The three were severely injured. They weren't content with the terms of relocation, so they went to the house's roof and poured petrol over their bodies as the relocation squad arrived around 9 a.m. They remain in critical condition in ICU. Local witnesses say officials and uniformed staff at the scene were indifferent and didn't attempt to rescue the protestors. |

China isn't one of the nine countries under consideration for the 2018 or 2022 competition, but it has made its intentions clear that it would like to host FIFA's crown jewel in 2026. "I think it's a very, very good opportunity if we can have this World Cup come to Houston in 2018 or 2022," Yao said. |

| More than 300 outgoing flights in Shanghai Pudong International Airport have been delayed after torrential rains caused by tropical storm Meranti that hit this east China city Saturday, Xinhua reports. Inbound flights have not been seriously affected, with fewer than 10 flights being delayed prior to landing, airport officials say. Additionally, flights were not affected at Hongqiao, the other civilian airport in the city. |
