China airs first 3-D TV channel

2012 has also ushered in a new age for Chinese TV. The country's first 3-D TV channel has started broadcasting on a trial basis. Opened on New Year's Day, the channel will air various programs including documentaries, sports, serials and live events -- including the upcoming CCTV New Year Gala and the London Olympic Games.

The 3D channel broadcasts from 10:30am through to midnight, Beijing time each day. There are no viewing fees during the early phase of operation, and viewers can get the full 3-D effect, by wearing 3-D glasses.

Six TV stations have cooperated to produce the channel, including CCTV, Beijing, Tianjin, Shanghai, Jiangsu and Shenzhen TV stations. Each station is responsible for a specific program, while the channel itself is broadcast via CCTV.
