About 83.6 percent of respondents think people's abilities in the Chinese language are declining, with 45 percent of them saying they are declining "drastically," according to a survey by China Youth Daily.
As for how they came to this conclusion, 72.9 percent of respondents thought the popularization of computer weakened people's Chinese writing ability, 67 percent said the rather flexible "internet language" caused the fragmentation of Chinese, and 67.7 percent thought it was because people pay much more attention to foreign language studies than Chinese.
