The captain of the capsized Costa Concordia could be sentenced to a cumulative total of more than 2,500 years in prison if convicted of causing a shipwreck, abandoning ship and multiple counts of manslaughter, Daily Telegraph reported.

Francesco Schettino could face an eight year jail sentence for every one of the 300 passengers and crew he left on the crippled vessel when it grounded on the shores of Giglio Island on the night of Jan. 13.

He would face an additional 15 years in prison if convicted of manslaughter and another 10 years if found guilty of causing the shipwreck. A total of 32 people are now feared to have died in the accident. （点击《每日电讯报》查看原文）

沉船船长或被判2500年

       如果导致沉船、弃船逃跑、多重过失杀人等罪名成立，倾覆的“科斯塔·康科迪亚”号游轮船长弗朗西斯科·谢蒂诺将面临超过2500年的监禁。

       据英国《每日电讯报》报道，1月13日游轮在吉廖岛海岸搁浅时，谢蒂诺抛下船上的300名乘客和船员自顾逃生，他要为他们每人坐上8年牢。

       此外，游轮造成了32人死亡。如果过失杀人罪成立，谢蒂诺还需要多坐15年牢。如果被判定是造成沉船的主因，他就还需要再坐10年牢。
