The 16th World Congress of Applied Linguistics (AILA2011) will be held in Beijing on August 23-28. The five-day event will be co-hosted by China English Language Education Association, Beijing Foreign Studies University, National Research Center for Foreign Language Education and Foreign Language Teaching and Research Press.
The congress, held every three years, is organized by the International Association of Applied Linguistics (AILA). AILA is the international federation of national and regional associations of applied linguistics. The organization currently has more than 8,000 members worldwide including researchers, policy makers and practitioners active in the field of applied linguistics.
The theme of this year's congress is harmony in diversity between languages, cultures and societies. Attendees will discuss topics covering language acquisition and processing, language teaching and learning, language in professions, language in societies and applied linguistics and methodology.
World Congress of Applied Linguistics has been held in France, the U.K., Greece, Germany, the Netherlands, Sweden, USA, Canada, Japan and Singapore. This is the first time it is coming to China.
