CHINA-HEILONGJIANG-MINE FLOODING-RESCUE (CN)

A rescuer uses a stethoscope to receive any response through the tube from the miners trapped in a mine in Qitaihe City, northeast China's Heilongjiang Province, Aug. 29, 2011. Rescuers were still struggling on Monday to reach 22 miners who have been trapped underground for a week in a flooded mine in Qitaihe. Rescuers have sent relief supplies down a 278-meter-deep hole. However, when the rescuers pulled the package back out of the hole an hour and a half later, they found that it had not been opened. [Xinhua/Wang Song]
