Local residents hold a ceremony entitled "Shuttle through the Fire" in a village in Pan'an County of Zhejiang Province, on Oct. 23, 2012. Villagers, using more than 100 baskets of charcoal, create a big fire altar with a 10-meter diameter. Afterwards, 18 strong men, with bear feet and shoulders and holding a spade in each hand, shuttle their way through the glowing coals. This kind of activity is believed to be able to expel ominous things and bring blessings to all the villagers.
