The bronze heads of four zodiac animals looted by British and French troops in 1860 have gone on display at a new museum in Shanghai. It is the first outing for the heads, which were returned to China in 2000. The four bronze heads on display here are the pig, ox, tiger and monkey. They used to be part of the zodiac fountain at the Yuanmingyuan Garden before they were looted in 1860. The remaining eight are still unaccounted for overseas. But what's displayed here shows the exquisite craftsmanship of the bronze heads. |
